"Where are the rules of grief written, and who do we offend when we write our own?"

- Sally Britton

Mourning Breaks Grief Counselling & Support
A place to find solace and support for all that you are grieving

We all experience loss. We all grieve.
Loss is a universal experience, and yet, for many of us, we soon discover that we are very alone within our grief. Friends and family may not understand; for many reasons, they may not be able to hold space for all that we carry. Mourning Breaks is a place for you to feel--and express all that you feel--without judgment or expectation. A place to safely explore the meaning and impact of your losses, and to find ways to integrate these losses into your world - gently, and at your own pace.
We know that this isn't easy. You don't have to do it alone.

mourning breaks

Mourning Breaks specializes in supporting individuals 18+ who are grieving the death of a cherished loved one. Whether family, chosen family, a friend, neighbour, coworker or client, all that matters is that they were important to you, that their death has impacted you, and that you are grieving.

We also support those who are anticipating the death of someone close to them due to life-limiting illness or other difficult expected, or unexpected, circumstances.

In addition, we recognize that grief can sit painfully and often unrecognized, within the hearts of many after significant change or upset in life and we're here to support you as you navigate non-death losses, too.

We offer a free 30-minute telephone consultation to discuss your unique situation, to help you determine whether Mourning Breaks is the best fit for you at this time.

*************
I acknowledge that we are meeting on land that has been inhabited and cared for by Indigenous peoples for thousands of years. In particular, this region is the traditional territory of the Anishinaabeg, Haudenosaunee and the Ojibway/Chippewa peoples; land covered by the Upper Canada Treaties.
This recognition of the contributions and historic importance of Indigenous peoples must also be clearly and overtly connected to our collective commitment as non-Indigenous settlers on this land to make the promise and the challenge of Truth and Reconciliation real in our communities.

We have a responsibility to consider what it means to acknowledge the history and legacy of colonialism.
I invite you to read the Final Report of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada, and familiarize yourself with the 94 Calls to Action. I encourage you to learn more about the critical issues that face Indigenous communities today. While we gather here to hold space for grief, may we also keep in mind the grief carried in the hearts of Indigenous families in this region, and actively work to contribute to righting injustice wherever we have the capacity and means to do so.
